The Bucks open their seventh CHL season tonight, against their former Captain Brent Cullaton, who now captains the Rage.
Laredo will be looking to get off to a fast start once again this season, as they try to win their Third CHL President's Cup. Last season the Bucks tied a CHL/WPHL record by winning their first 10 games, en route to a 42-19-3 record.
Head Coach and General Manager Terry Ruskowski brought back seven players from last seasons roster, including two-time CHL MVP Jeff Bes, Team Captain Serge Dube, and 2008 CHL Most Outstanding Defenseman Finalist Adam Rivet.
Ruskowski brought in a couple of notable veteran players during the off-season, trading for two-time CHL All-Star goaltender Sebastien Centomo. The 2002-03 CHL Rookie of the Year has a career CHL mark of 62-29-3, including 18-9-3 last year for Mississippi.
Another big off-season signing is veteran forward Bobby Russell. The 11-year vet spent the last three seasons overseas, before returning to North American play this year.
During Russell's last season on North American soil in 2004-05, he scored 26 goals, with 37 assists for 63 points for the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads.
Rocky Mountain comes into tonight trying to forget last seasons stretch run, where they were eliminated from playoff contention on the last day of the regular season.
Cullaton put up a career high 92 points last season, as he was a finalist for the CHL MVP award.
Also back with the Rage is Daymen Rycroft, who set the standard last season in the CHL scoring a league-high 48 goals.
Rocky Mountain will once again have Scott Reid in the net for them. Last season Reid went 25-14-4 for the Rage.
The Bucks will continue opening weekend Saturday, when they host their hated rivals, the Bosser-Shreveport Mudbugs. Game time is 7:30pm.
