Buffalo vs. Chiefs Tonight

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Syracuse Chiefs in the first two games of a three-game in two-day set from Alliance Bank Stadium (Game 1: 5:00 p.m.). The teams are playing a doubleheader tonight because of a rain out on April 20. Buffalo is coming off a 3-1 series win over the Durham Bulls and a 4-4 homestand. After tomorrow, the Herd will host the Chiefs for two games at Coca-Cola Field on Wednesday and Thursday.

FIGGY HONORED:

The IL named RHP Nelson Figueroa the league's Pitcher of the Week for June 8-14. Figueroa was 1-0 with a 1.98ERA in two starts last week. He struck out 16 batters in 13.2 innings of work, including a season-high nine in a 126-pitch effort against Durham on Saturday. Figueroa's 2.90ERA on the season is the 12th lowest mark in the International League.

vs. THE CHIEFS:

The Bisons have revenge on their mind tonight as they travel to Syracuse. The Chiefs have won seven straight to begin the 2009 season-series, including a three-game sweep at Alliance Bank Stadium, April 17-19. Last year, Buffalo lost the first give games of the season series before winning seven of their final 11 games against the Chiefs.

COMPLETE EFFORT:

The Bisons bullpen can thank RHP Brandon Knight for being rested for tonight's doubleheader. Knight threw the Bisons' first nine-inning complete of the year yesterday. Knight allowed just six hits and no walks while striking out seven in the 8-1 win. RHP Dillon Gee threw a seven-inning complete game for Buffalo on May 2(1) against Louisville.

START WITH A BANG:

The Mets acquired INF Javier Castillo from the White Sox on Sunday and the 25-year old was impressive in his Bisons debut. The infielder hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning. Castillo was also solid in the field at shortstop as he was instrumental in turning two double-plays.

THE HITS KEEP COMING:

The Bisons offense caught fire against Durham, scoring 24 runs in the four-game series. Yesterday, seven different players recording a hit and six registered at least one RBI. Overall, the Bisons had 42 hits and a .316 batting average in the four games against Durham

MEET THE METS:

The Mets dropped the rubber game of the Subway Series with the Yankees yesterday, 15-0. The Mets (32-29) were out-hit 17-6 and didn't have an extra-base hit. New York is now four games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the N.L. East division. The Mets are off tonight and will open a three game set against the Orioles in Baltimore tomorrow night.
