Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) – The Buffalo Destroyers announced today they have released QB Fred McNair and FB/LB Jason Bratton.

McNair, who was acquired prior to the 2002 season in a trade with the Carolina Cobras, started 12 games for Buffalo last season completing 209 of 383 pass attempts for 2,761 yards, 49 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. McNair was named the Arena Football League's Offensive Player of the Week for his performance week ten at New Jersey. He was also named Game MVP after passing for 306 yards and a season high six touchdowns. McNair had a career high seven rushing touchdowns in 2002.

McNair is currently fifth in AFL history in passing attempts (2,625); sixth in both completions (1,520) and passing yards (19,359) and eighth in touchdown passes (340). McNair is also 20th all-time with 30 rushing touchdowns.

"I had mixed feelings about releasing Fred because we had prior history together in Carolina," said Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky. "He's a long time veteran that has been steady throughout his career. I felt that in the best interest of the team, we needed to go in another direction in regards to our quarterback.

Bratton spent one season with Buffalo and led the team in rushing with 63 yards. On defense, Bratton had 7.5 tackles and one pass defense. Bratton is 20th in AFL history with 531 rushing yards.

Buffalo kicks off its fifth season in the Arena Football League Saturday, February 1, 2003 as the Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage at the HSBC Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444!
