Firebirds to Hold Free Agent Tryout Camp

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Firebirds of the Arena Football League have set the date for their only free-agent open tryout of the 2003 season. The tryout will be held on December 9, 2002 at the West 10th Street Sports Center (Indy West). Indy West is located at 9225 West 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
Registration begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. with the camp starting at 9:00 a.m. Pre-registration is highly recommended by visiting www.firebirds.com and submitting the registration form. Participants may also fax the registration form to (317) 472-8079. There will be a $40 registration fee and money orders can be made payable to the Indiana Firebirds. Personnel checks and credit cards will not be accepted. The deadline for the pre-registration will be Friday, December 6th at 5 pm. Directions to Indy West can also be found on www.firebirds.com.
Coach Dailey and his coaching staff will be evaluating participants in a series of speed and agility testing drills followed by a break down of drills by position. The tryout will be conducted on Astroturf so participants are asked to bring the proper footwear attire.

"We are obviously extremely excited about the opportunity to attract quality football players from the extensive talent pool that exists in Indiana and surrounding states," said Dailey. "There a number of quality college football programs with great football tradition within a three to four hours radius."
Over the years the Firebirds have signed numerous players from free-agent open tryouts, including current Firebirds veteran Evan Hlavacek.

The 2003 season marks the historical debut of the AFL on NBC. The network will broadcast 71 games next season, including all playoff games and ArenaBowl XVII on June 22. The Firebirds kick off the 2003 regular season on Sunday, February 2nd on the road against the Detroit Fury. The Birds home opener is slated for Sunday, February, 16th versus the Chicago Rush live on NBC Sports.
