Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

The Des Moines Buccaneers commitment to growing youth ice sports in the metro area was on display last week as Bucs players assisted with the Des Moines Youth Hockey Association's Mitey Bucs Polar Camp.

Members of the Buccaneers team were on hand at Buccaneer Arena on Thursday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 26th to teach kids ages 4-10 about the game of hockey and introduce them to the basics of the sport.

"As an organization, we are always excited to get our players actively involved with children in the community, especially when it relates to building Des Moines' youth ice sports programs," said Buccaneer Hockey president Shawn Edwards.

The Mitey Bucs Polar Camp is a sample of the DMYHA's formal USA Hockey Initiation Program, which runs from October through March, and serves as an introduction to the youth hockey program for kids new to the sport. The camp was split into four sessions, with two sessions made available for 4-6 year olds and the other two open to 7-10 year olds.
