STAMPEDE UPDATE: Waterloo edged the Stampede during the season opener (4-2) at the Sioux Falls Arena on Saturday night.

Saturday, September 25th vs Chicago: The Stampede came out of the gates flying, scoring just 39 seconds into the game on game on a goal by Stampede newcomer, T.J. Oshie. Andrew Carroll and Justin White tallied assists on the goal. Oshie, a native of Warroad, MN has been on the Stampede roster since tryout camp, but suited up with the club for the first time on Saturday night. Oshie's goal would stand until 15:16 of the first period when Thomas Fortney scored to tie the game at one.

In the second period, Waterloo took the lead 2-1 at 3:28 on a goal by Corey Quirk. Quirk would strike again for his second goal of the night at 11:30 to give the Black Hawks a 3-1 lead after two periods. With Stampede goaltender, Greg Barrett, pulled from the net, Tom Gorowsky found the back of the Hawks net with just 20 seconds remaining in the game to pull the Herd within one. Jesse Vessel ruined any chance of Stampede comeback however, when he scored with just five seconds left in the game. The Stampede out shot the Black Hawks 29 to 28 in the game. Barrett made 24 saves on the night in goal for the Herd.

UP NEXT: The Stampede return to the Sioux Falls Arena this Friday night versus the Indiana Ice (formerly the Danville Wings) at 7:05 PM. The Stampede defeated the Ice in a shootout 4-3 on September 17th at the "Buc Bowl."

The first 2,000 fans at Friday night's game will receive a free "Celebration of Stampede Hockey" poster compliments of Wells Fargo. The limited edition water colored poster features former Stampede star, Thomas Vanek.

ICE UPDATE: The Ice won their first game in franchise history last Saturday, defeating the Chicago Steel 3-2 at Chicago Edge Arena. Todd McIlrath, Eddie Del Grosso and Travis Winter all scored in the win. Winter scored the game winner midway through the third period for the Ice. B.J. O'Brien made 34 saves in goal for Indiana. Tomas Klempa is the top returning scorer for the Ice. Last season with Danville, Klempa posted 45 points (15g, 30a) in 59 games...The Ice finished the "Buc Bowl" with a 1-1-1 record two weeks ago in Des Moines...The Ice are coached by Dennis Gendron who spent the last 11 years in the New Jersey Devils organization and the last six years with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League, the Devils top minor pro affiliate.

SIOUX FALLS SAFE KIDS COALITION: This Sunday (October 3rd) the Sioux Falls Stampede are teaming up with Billion Toyota-B.M.W., the Sioux Falls Safe Kids Coalition and the Sioux Falls Police Department for the USA National Fingerprinting and Photo ID Safety Program. From 12 Noon to 5 PM, Billion Toyota-B.M.W. at 4101 West 12th Street will host a free digital photo and fingerprint I.D. event as part of the America's "Klass Kids Foundation" child safety program designed to protect and safeguard children as young as three months old against violence.

Stampede players will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures with the kids. The first 100 families to attend the fingerprinting will receive a pair of tickets compliments of Billion Toyota. BOOSTER CLUB TRIP TO SIOUX CITY: The Thundering Herd Booster Club will be hosting a bus trip for the Stampede's first trip to Sioux City on Saturday, October 16th. The cost for the trip is $20 for members and $25 for non-members and that cost includes a game ticket. If you are interested in joining the booster club on the bus trip, email them directly at: gostampede@yahoo.com or stop by the Booster Club table during Friday's game.

CHUCK-A-PUCK NIGHT: Friday night will feature an all-new "Chuck-A-Puck" promotion at the Sioux Falls Arena. At every Friday home game, fans can stop by the merchandise table in the front lobby and purchase foam pucks for $1 to throw on the ice during the second intermission. Fans can win prizes from five different event sponsors: The Gas Stop, Land O'Lakes, Lewis Stores, Steak-Out and Sunshine Foods. All proceeds will go to the Stampede's "Foundation For Kids."
