
Bucs get point in season opening shootout loss

If the Des Moines Buccaneers showed anything in there season opening 4-3 shootout loss to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, its that this team looks like they have the heart it will take to make it through a grueling USHL season.
The Buccaneers trailed for most of game, falling behind 2-0 early in the second period. Des Moines didn't get on the board until the nineteenth minute of the second period, when Pat Borgestad beat former Buc Dan Tormey to bring the score to 2-1.
The Bucs tied the game early in the third period on a Dustin Fulton goal, but Cedar Rapids regained the lead less than two minutes later. The Bucs played aggressive hockey for the next ten minutes, and it finally paid off when Chad Rau tied the game with 4:10 remaining in the game.
Both Tormey and Buccaneer goalie Pat Watson were impenetrable in overtime, sending the game to a shoot-out. Cedar Rapids' Jon Grabarek hit on the first shot, which was all that was needed for the âRiders win.
The Buccaneers are back home next Saturday night, October 2nd to take on the Chicago Steel on Lazer 103.3 "Used Car Night". Four fans at the game will win used cars during the first intermission. Tickets can be purchased by calling 278-9757 or by stopping into the Buccaneer Arena box office.
