Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
In a classic match-up between long-time rivals, the Des Moines Buccaneers lost to the Omaha Lancers 3-2 in overtime, capping off a great weekend of hockey that helped the Bucs put their 0-2-1 start behind them.
The Bucs, who rode a hot start to a 7-1 win Friday night, fell behind early in the game Saturday, giving up two goals in the first period. The Bucs remained behind 2-0 until midway through the second period when Chad Rau scored off a Matt Greer pass to cut the deficit to one. The goal and the assist were the fourth points of the weekend for both Greer and Rau.
In typical Buccaneer fashion, Des Moines continued their rally in the third period and fought back to tie the game at two on a John McCarthy goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation.
Omaha scored the winning goal midway through the extra period, but the point earned by the Bucs keeps them in a second place tie in the USHL East Division.
The Bucs hit the road next week, playing games in Chicago and Indianapolis and then return home on Saturday, October 23rd to take on the Waterloo Black Hawks. Tickets are available and can be purchased by calling 278-9757 or by stopping by the Buccaneer Arena box office.
