Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Buccaneers got exactly what they needed Friday night at Buccaneer Arena, earning their first win of the season in a 7-1 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers. Their seven goals gave the fans something they wanted as well...free doughtnuts.
The Bucs took their first lead of the season when Chris Kane scored from the blue line to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead six minutes into the first period. The Buccaneers looked extremely comfortable playing with the lead, scoring twice more before the end of the first period. Matt Greer scored his first goal on his way to a hat trick exactly a minute after Kane's score, and Alex Laseen gave Des Moines a 3-0 lead just five minutes later.
Green Bay opened the second period with their lone goal of the game, but the Matt Greer answered with two more goals to give the Bucs a 5-1 lead and bring the fans within one goal of winning free Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Whenever the Buccaneers score six goals at home, every fan in the arena receives a free six-pack of doughnuts from the Krispy Kreme store on 86th Street in Clive.
With chants of "we want doughnuts" echoing throughout the arena for nearly a full period, Dustin Fulton scored the prize-winning goal late in the third period. Ryan Raven finished off the scoring to make it 7-1 with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
The Buccaneers are home again Saturday night to take on the Omaha Lancers at 7:35 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 278-9757 or by stopping by the Buccaneer Arena box office For more information, please contact Dustin Godsey, Des Moines Buccaneers Director of Communications at (515) 278-9757.
