Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Urbandale (IA) Des Moines Buccaneers and head coach Regg Simon have announced the completion of a trade that brings one of the North American Hockey League's leading scorers to the team.

The Buccaneers have traded forward Austin Hervey to the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings in exchange for forward Chad McDonald.

"We had a hole in our line-up at the center position and Chad was a guy we targeted to fill that need," said coach Simon. "He's got good speed, likes to shoot and is puck hungry. He should fit in well with our group of forwards."

McDonald fills the center spot of the recently departed Drake Caggiula, who returned to Canada to play Tier II hockey in the OJHL.

"It was unfortunate, but Drake had to go home," said Simon. "Outside of the hockey being a big jump for him, there are commitments both at the rink and off the ice that players are required to fulfill in order to be a part of this organization and league."

In 15 games with Kalamazoo this season, McDonald had 15 points (10 goals, 5 assists) and was the team's leading scorer. He was tied for fourth in the NAHL in total goals with the highlight coming September 16th when he netted five goals in a win over Dawson Creek.

McDonald is a 5'9, 160 pound 18 year old from Battle Creek, MI who is in his first season of Junior hockey.

The Des Moines Buccaneers return to the ice when they take on the Tri-City Storm at 7pm on Saturday night at Buccaneer Arena. Fans are encouraged to come dressed in costume for a chance to win prizes and all fans are invited to take part in a skate with the Bucs following the game.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are playing their 32nd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League beginning in the Fall of 2011. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
