Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-3.
The Laredo Bucks faced the Rio Grande Killer Bees for the 7th time this season Tuesday night in Hidalgo. The last time the two teams met was in back to back games in December in Laredo, where the Bucks won both games.
Ryan Rondeau got the start in net for the Laredo Bucks. He had his first test of the game when Killer Bee Aaron Lee was awarded a penalty shot less than five minutes into the first. Rondeau denied Lee, keeping it a scoreless game. At 15:40 in the first the Bucks had a 5 on 3 advantage, thanks to a double spearing minor to Aaron Boogaard and a too many men on the ice bench minor. The Bees Jason Dixon was able to breakaway and score an unassisted shorthanded goal 16:21. But the Bucks regrouped and scored a powerplay goal at 17:38. Matt Hanson put the puck in from the point with assists from Matt Pierce and A.J. Hau that tied the game 1-1. The Bucks outshot the Bees 12-11 in the period.
The Bucks special team units faced a 5-3 penalty kill less than 1:20 into the second period. Laredo successfully killed off the penalties to keep the game tied at 1-1. Neither team was able to light the lamp in the second frame. The teams were playing back and forth most of the period. The Bees outshot the Bucks 11-9 in the second.
Rondeau faced a flurry of shots to begin the third period. The Bucks were given another powerplay opportunity at 3:39, but were unable to take advantage of the extra skater. The Bees were next on the powerplay, this time Aaron Lee was able to find the net at 7:041 to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. The Bees would give the puck away behind their net and Erik Boisvert was able to put it past the netminder and tie the game 2-2. However, Tomas Klempa and Aaron Boogaard were each able to score a goal giving the Bees a 4-2 lead twenty five seconds later. The Bucks were awarded another powerplay with only 1:19 left in the game. Coach Dube pulled Ryan Rondeau to give the Bucks a 6 on 4 advantage. Rusty Masters was able to drive home the puck with 40.5 seconds left in the game. Matt Pierce and Neil Trimm assisted on the goal, making it a one goal game. The Bucks were unable to tie the game in the final seconds of play.
