Bucks Fall in Shootout, Clinch Third Seed

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Odessa Jackalopes 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night in front of 5,064 fans at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks clinched the third seed in the Southern Conference playoffs thanks to Texas' loss to Rapid City. Laredo falls to 31-20-11 (73 points). The Bucks will take on Allen in the Southern Conference semi-finals starting next weekend.

Dominic Leveille scored the game-winner in the shootout for Odessa while Joel Martin stopped 27 of 30 shots he faced and all four in the shootout.

Pier Pelletier stopped 41 shots in suffering the shootout loss for the Bucks. Pelletier is 9-0-2 in his last 11 decisions.

Brian Swiniarski scored his second goal of the night just 2:13 into the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Swiniarski has 12 goals on the season.

The Bucks were outshot in the game 45-30 and fall to 1-1-4 against Odessa this season.

Odessa (46-11-5, 97 points) took the early lead on Laredo as they went up 1-0 just 4:02 into the contest. Phillipe Plante scored on a slap shot from the top of the left circle to pick up his 14th of the season.

The Bucks came back and scored twice to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Sylvain Deschatelets jammed in a power-play rebound from the left side of the crease to score his seventh goal in 11 games with the Bucks.

Laredo took a 2-1 lead with just 1:15 left in the first period when Igor Agarunov scored on a backhanded rebound attempt to pick up his fifth of the season.

The Bucks outshot the Jackalopes 13-7 in the first period.

The Jackalopes tied the game at 2-2 at the 9:31 mark of the second period when Swiniarski tapped in a rebound right in front of the Bucks net.

The Bucks would jump ahead 3-2 with 6:18 left in the second when Todd Griffith took a feed from Eric Giosa in the slot and scored on a laser slap shot from the hash marks. The strike was Griffith's 10th of the season.

Laredo was outshot 19-9 in the second period.

Jarred Mohr missed his third straight game with an upper-body injury.

The Bucks will travel to Odessa and play their final road game of the regular season Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum.
