LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks fell to the Allen Americans 4-1 Tuesday night in game three of the Central Hockey League Southern Conference semifinals at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks trail the best of seven series two games to one with game four Thursday in Laredo.
Justin Bowers had two goals and one assist while Chris Whitley set aside 24 of 25 shots he faced to improve to 2-1 in the playoffs.
The Bucks were outshot 33-25 in the game.
The Americans jumped out in front of the Bucks as they took a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Bowers re-directed a shot from the right circle to give Allen a 1-0 lead 7:17 into the first period. It was Bower's first goal of the playoffs.
Allen would go up 2-0 with 8:47 left in the first when Ryan Fairbarn jammed in Bruce Graham's shot from the bottom of the right circle. The strike was Faibarn's first of the playoffs.
Each team put up 11 shots in the first period.
The Bucks cut the lead to 2-1 at the 6:53 mark of the second period when Todd Griffith scored on a rebound from the bottom of the left circle to pick up his second of the playoffs. The tally was Griffith's second in as many games as well as his fourth career CHL playoff goal.
Allen would increase their lead to 3-1 with just 36 seconds left in the second when Erik Adams jammed in a rebound after Jarret Lukin's breakaway attempt was stopped. The goal was Adam's second of the series and the fifth of his CHL playoff career.
Laredo was outshot in the second period 15-11.
Bowers made it 4-1 Allen when he scored an empty net goal with 32 seconds left in the third period as the Bucks fall to 10-9 all-time in game three of a playoff series.
The Bucks were outshot in the third period 7-3.
Pier Pelletier stopped 29 of 32 shots he faced in net as he falls to 1-2 in the playoffs.
Going back to 2008 the Bucks have lost five straight home playoff games.
Laredo went 0-for-four on the power-play Tuesday night to fall to 0-for 16 in the series with the man advantage.
*$10,000 Donated During Game Three*
For the third straight year, the Bucks, along with Laredo Energy and Border Lease Services gave a financial donation to two local charities.
The South Texas Food Bank was the recipient of a $5,000 donation from Laredo Energy and Sacred Heart Children's Home received a $5,000 donation from Border Lease Services.
Over the past three years Laredo Energy and Border Lease Services have teamed up to donate $50,000 to these two charities, while also providing ticketing support to numerous organizations for Laredo Bucks playoff games.
The Bucks presented the two $5,000 checks on the ice during Tuesday's game.
