B.C. Lions News Release
The BC Lions Football Club announced late today that quarterback Buck Pierce has agreed to terms on a contract extension. Terms of the deal were not released.
"Buck proved himself to be an effective leader for our team in 2008," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. "I believe this extension not only solidifies the strength we have at the quarterback position but also clarifies everyone's role going in to training camp," added Buono.
Pierce will take to the field for his fifth campaign in Black and Orange after coming to the club as a free agent in 2005. The New Mexico State grad stepped into the starter's role at the beginning of the 2008 season and was good on 232 of 362 passing attempts for 3,018 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2008, while adding another 177 rushing yards on 29 carries with two TD's. In his most prolific campaign to date, Pierce threw for a career-high 406 yards in Week 10 at Montreal, setting an all-time club single game record with 38 completions.
"I have truly enjoyed my time here as a Lion so I'm pleased to get this contract done," said Pierce. "I am surrounded by a talented group of guys and I look forward to helping the team bring the Grey Cup back to BC."
Over the final eight games of the 2008 season, Pierce threw 14 touchdown passes and only four interceptions.
