Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers' streak of having players drafted into the National Hockey League reached ten consecutive years Sunday when the Columbus Blue Jackets selected Matt Greer with their eight round pick, the 233rd selection of the draft.
Greer, a 6'1", 183 lb. forward from White Bear Lake, MN, competed in Des Moines' evaluation camp held at Buccaneer Arena two weeks ago, and will be included on the Bucs' 2004-05 roster when it is released later this week.
The Buccaneers have been represented in every NHL draft since 1995, with Greer becoming the twenty-third Buccaneer selected in the last ten years. Overall, twenty-six current or former Bucs have been selected by an NHL club since 1983, with the high-water mark coming in the 2002 draft when six Des Moines alums were selected.
