D.C. United News Release

CHANTILLY, VA (August 8, 2002) - D.C. United announced today that the club has waived forward Dennis Ludwig. The Rutgers University product was selected by United in the 4th round (40th overall) of the 2002 MLS SuperDraft and was signed to a developmental contract on April 19. In addition, the Black-and-Red announced that midfielder Bryan Namoff has been added to the club's developmental roster and will be loaned to the Richmond Kickers (D.C. United's A-League affiliate) for the remainder of the 2002 season. Together, the moves open up a roster slot through which United may be able to sign a player.

Ludwig, 21, spent time on loan this summer with the Carolina Dynamo (D.C. United's D-3 Pro League affiliate). He appeared in only two MLS matches, both as a substitute and logged a total of 30 minutes. He made his MLS debut against Chicago on May 4, entering the game in the 76th minute for Jose Alegria.

"Dennis worked hard on and off of the field to improve his game, but unfortunately, he wasn't able to earn a regular spot on our roster," said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We wish him all of the best."

Ludwig left his mark at Rutgers finishing his college career seventh on the all-time scoring list with 89 points. His 39 career goals were also the sixth-best mark in Rutgers history. He tied former United forward Steve Rammel's single-season school record with 17 goals and was named the Big East's Offensive Player of the Year in 2001 after leading the league with 39 points on 17 goals and five assists. Ludwig helped Rutgers to a 15-7-3 record and a top 10 final ranking for the 2001 season. Along with posting eight game-winning goals in 2001, Ludwig also earned first team All-Big East honors and was a Verizon Academic All-District selection and a three time Big East Academic All-Star.

Namoff, 23, has logged 255 minutes while appearing in eight games (three starts) for the Black-and-Red this season. The Bradley University product was United's second round selection (15th overall) in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft. Namoff placed second on the club with seven assists (in 15 appearances) during his rookie season.

"Bryan will greatly benefit from playing in competitive matches on a consistent basis," added Kasper. "I'm sure that Richmond will find him to be a solid addition to their club."
