Peoria Rivermen News Release
HOUSTON (February 3, 2010) - The Houston Aeros made the most of their shots on Wednesday night as they scored four times on 16 shots in 4-1 win over the Rivermen at the Toyota Center. Barry Brust made 25 saves while Ben Bishop and Hannu Toivonen combined for just 11 in Peoria's fourth consecutive defeat.
Cam Paddock accounted for the only Rivermen goal on a third period power play with his team already trailing 3-0. Peoria finished just 1-for-8 on the man advantage, which included a 65-second 5-on-3 and an extended power play following a major penalty in the third period that led to the goal.
Bryce Lampman was hit from behind into the boards at 9:20 of the third by Colton Gillies. The Aeros winger was ejected from the game and received a 5-minute major for boarding. Lampman remained on the ice for several minutes before being taken off on stretcher. He was conscious and alert but was taken to a local hospital.
Houston had already built themselves a 3-0 lead by that point. Justin Falk slid a shot past Bishop at 10:25 of the first period during a 4-on-4 situation. Ryan Gunderson put one off the post and in at 10:24 of the second to put the Aeros ahead by two. Just minutes after Peoria's 5-on-3 expired to open the third, Petr Kalus raced in on a breakaway and shot one off Bishop's glove and in.
Bishop was replaced by Toivonen following the goal and finished with eight saves on 11 shots in 44:24 of work. It was the first time this season, the Rivermen have used both goaltenders in the same game for any reason.
Toivonen stopped three of four in his time in goal. Danny Irmen's one-timer with 3:58 remaining capped the scoring.
The Rivermen outshot the Aeros in all three periods as they held them to just four shots in the first and five in the second. It was just the sixth regulation loss for the Rivermen this season when outshooting the opposition.
The Rivermen continue their trip Friday in Cedar Park, TX at 7:30 p.m. They will meet the Texas Stars on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 7 p.m.. All games can be heard on Hippie 101.1FM or online through http://www.rivermen.net/fanzone/live/.
