Arkansas Travelers News Release
Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, Wichita, KS - Arkansas RHP Mike Brunet tossed 6.2 scoreless innings leading the Travelers (4-0) to their third consecutive shutout, a 1-0 victory over the Wichita Wranglers (0-4). Brunet (1-0) allowed just three hits and two walks with one strikeout to post the victory. LHP Jon Rouwenhorst kept Wichita scoreless for 1.1 innings and RHP Mark O'Sullivan stranded the tying run on third base in the ninth for his first save. The Travs pitching staff is now working on a string of 30 consecutive scoreless innings.
Travs 2B Alberto Callaspo knocked in the game's only run, in the third inning. Wichita starter RHP Junior Herndon walked Nick Gorneault to begin the third. Casey Smith singled to send Gorneault to second base, and a fielder's choice moved him to third base. Callaspo followed with a single to right field for the 1-0 lead.
Herndon (0-1) pitched well allowing five hits and one run in six innings, but still took the loss.
The Travs' 4-0 start is their best since becoming an affiliate of the Anaheim Angels for the 2001 season.
The game was played in 2:14 and the paid attendance was not reported.
The Travs and Wranglers will play the fourth game of this six-game series Sunday afternoon. RHP Mike Brunet takes the mound for Arkansas against RHP Junior Herndon. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
