Austin Bruins News Release

The Austin Bruins (11-3-0) stayed unbeaten at home and snapped the Kenai River Brown Bears (12-4-0) eight-game winning streak Friday with a 5-3 win at Riverside Arena in Austin. It was the first ever meeting between the two teams.

The Bruins got the scoring started in the first period, when Guillaume Leclerc (Franois, France) snuck a rebound past Brown Bears goaltender Zach Quinn (Westland, MI) for his tenth goal of the season. Kenai River answered quickly when Albin Karlsson (Uppsala, Sweden) took a backdoor pass from Zach Zulkanycz (Kenai, AK) and tapped in the goal to tie the game.

The teams went into the first break tied 1-1, but the Bruins again struck early in the second thanks to a goal by Lucas Kohls (Forest Lake, MN). Austin s Drew Anderson (Rochester, MN) capitalized on a Quinn mis-play, and gave the Bruins a 3-1 lead, and then Leclerc s league-leading 11th goal of the year and second of the game made it 4-1 heading into the second intermission.

Kenai River battled back in the third, closing the gap from 4-1 to 4-3 after goals from Christian Luiten (Anchorage, AK) and Frankie Spellman (Urbandale, IA), but an empty-net goal by the Bruins Jake Arroyo (Bolingbrook, IL) sealed Austin s fourth consecutive home win. Nick Lehr (Roseville, MN) made 21 saves in his league-leading tenth win of the season.

The Bruins and Brown Bears will battle one more time in Austin Saturday night at 7:05pm. You can hear the game on 1480AM KAUS or watch online at fasthockey.com. The two teams will play two more games this season on February 7th and 8th in Kenai, Alaska.
