Bruins sign Allen, release Hamerlik

The Providence Bruins announced today that they have signed goaltender Andrew Allen to a professional tryout contract, and released goaltender Peter Hamerlik from his contract. Allen will be in uniform when the Bruins visit the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:05 p.m. Game coverage can be heard live on WDDZ AM-550 and online at www.providencebruins.com.

Allen, a 28-year-old native of Vankleek Hill, Ontario, is playing in his fourth professional season out of the University of Vermont (ECAC). He was 4-1-1 with a 1.90 GAA and .933 save percentage in six games this season with the Trenton Titans (ECHL). Allen set an ECHL playoff record as a rookie in 2001-02, when he made 78 saves in a 5-4 triple overtime win with the Jackson Bandits over the Louisiana Ice Gators on April 5, 2002. He also tied an ECHL record in 2002-03, when he posted three straight shutouts in his first three games with Trenton.

Allen has a 3-6-0 record with a 2.50 GAA and .926 save percentage in 12 career AHL games with Hershey, Binghamton and Utah. In 113 AHL and ECHL games, he is 53-39-13 with a 2.60 GAA and .914 save percentage.

Hamerlik, now playing his second professional season, was 1-1-1 with a 4.02 GAA and .877 save percentage in three games with Providence.

The Bruins host two games this weekend, beginning on Friday, November 19 at 7:05 p.m., when they face off with the Springfield Falcons. They also host the Philadelphia Phantoms on Sunday, November 21 at 4:05 p.m.

Bruins wives and girlfriends will kick off the team's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for this weekend's games. Non-perishable food items will be collected in the Dunkin' Donuts Center box office lobby, and donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Food will be collected on Friday from 5:45 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday from 2:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
