Bruins head home with 2-1 series lead

The Providence Bruins and Lowell Lock Monsters played Game 3 of their best-of-seven Atlantic Division Finals series on Wednesday night at Tsongas Arena, with the Bruins taking a 2-1 series lead by way of their 4-1 victory. The Bruins, playing the 100th playoff game in franchise history, with the Black and Gold improving its all-time record to 53-47. The teams return to action in Game 4 on Friday, May 13 at 7:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence. The Bruins will also host Game 5 on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.

Bruin center Patrice Bergeron (4) gave his team a 1-0 lead at 8:04 of the first period. Providence went up 2-0 at 10:09, when defenseman and co-captain Brent Thompson rifled home his first goal of the playoffs at 10:09. Rookie center Nate Thompson earned his first professional point on one assist, while center Jeff Daw, making his Bruin debut, had the other.

Center Brad Boyes made it 3-0 at 3:00 of the third period on his fourth goal of the playoffs, before the Lock Monsters scored to cut the lead to 3-1. Former Lock Monster Tomas Kurka put the game away on his fourth playoff goal, at 18:19.

Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen made 34 saves and is 6-3 the playoffs.
