Bruins Fall in Showcase Debut

The Austin Bruins kicked off their third season of competition at the Blaine Super Rink for the North American Hockey Leagues 10th annual Showcase Event. The Bruins clashed with last season's regular season champion Amarillo Bulls. The opening frame the Bruins had just 6 shots on goal while Nick Lehr faced 16. At the first intermission the game was scoreless. The second period the Bruins scored a power play goal as Brandon Wahlin was set up by AJ Reid and rookie Joe Caprio. The Bulls answered right back with an unassisted goal by Mike Davis. Austin regained the lead with a goal from AJ Reid assisting was newcomer Josh Bretner and veteran Jake Flynn. The Bulls notched the score at two just before the second intermission. At the end of two periods the score was 2-2. The final period from the Super rink was not the brightest for the Bruins. Amarillo turned the tide and took over control adding three goals, two being on the power play. At the end of regulation Amarillo defeated the Bruins 5-2. Tomorrow night at 8:15 the Bruins will battle the Corpus Christi Ice Rays in Blaine Minnesota. You can listen to live play by play on Fast Hockey.com.
