Austin Bruins News Release
AUSTIN, MN - Bruins fans had to wait 58:11 of game play before they could throw teddy bears onto the ice, but Jan Stefka finally got the stuffed animal downpour going as he scored with the goaltender pulled to turn a 2-0 deficit into a one goal game with just under two minutes to go. Austin couldn't push across the equalizer however, and fell to the Minnesota Wilderness by a 2-1 final.
Neither team scored in the first or second periods, with Kris Carlson making 25 saves to headline the Bruins' effort. Jack Forbort broke the scoreless tie at 3:57 of the 3rd, taking a pass from Tyler Vold and ripping a shot from the left wing past Carlson. Aaron Miller scored on a pretty toe-drag at 15:32 to double the Wilderness lead.
Stefka's goal made it an exciting finish, but the Bruins never really did have a great chance to tie it up. The penalty kill was a perfect 5 for 5 against the NAHL's best powerplay. Austin has killed off 15 consecutive penalties overall. The Bruins will finish the first half of play with a road contest in La Crosse against the Coulee Region Chill Saturday night at 7:00.
