Bruce Rondon Promoted to Chicago, Juan Minaya Optioned

(DURHAM, NC) -- RHP Bruce Rondon, who made his 2018 season debut with the Charlotte Knights on Thursday, had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox today. Rondon, 27, becomes the first player this season to earn a promotion to the White Sox from the Knights. Rondon takes the roster spot of RHP Juan Minaya, who was optioned to Charlotte after Chicago's game last night (Report TBD). Charlotte's active roster is currently at 24 players.
Signed as a free agent by the White Sox on January 31, 2018, Rondon threw a scoreless inning in his only appearance with the Knights on April 5 in Durham, NC. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Detroit Tigers on September 12, 2007. In parts of four seasons in the majors with the Tigers, Rond?n owns an 8-7 record with seven saves and a 5.00 ERA in 123 games.
Minaya, 27, appeared in three games with the White Sox this season and allowed three runs over one inning of work. Last season, Minaya led all American League rookies in saves with nine and ranked second on the White Sox in that category. In 13 games with the Knights last season, Minaya went 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 13 games.
The Knights will conclude their three-game series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) tonight from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC.
