Amarillo Dillas News Release

HARLINGEN, TX - The Amarillo Dillas were 2-21 on the season when trailing after the seventh inning, but against the United League-leader in saves on the mound, Amarillo mounted a quick comeback with an RBI triple by Eric Brown in the eighth for a 3-2 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings on Monday night at Harlingen Field.

Andy Noonan (2-1) came in for the final two outs of the seventh and pitched a hitless eighth and ninth for the win. Julio Santana (0-1) got the loss for the Whitewings, giving up only his fourth and fifth runs of the season in the effort.

Amarillo scored first for the 28th time this season. Brand-new Dillas outfielder Anthony Bennett led off the third with a double and came across the plate on Carlos Figueroa's 35th RBI of the season, a single to take an early lead. Rio Grande Valley would respond in the bottom half as Agustin Septimo walked on nine pitches, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Brian Nichols RBI single for a 1-1 tie game.

The Whitewings finally took the lead on the Dillas in the bottom of the seventh as Sandy DeLeon singled and was pinch ran for at first by Juan Cabrera. Septimo got on with an infield single that deflected off Allen's leg to put Cabrera at second. Joaquin Rodriguez followed with an RBI single to score Cabrera for a 2-1 Rio Grande Valley lead.

In the eighth, Santana came in trying for a six-out save, but allowed a leadoff single to Willie James, then allowed a no-out RBI triple to Brown to score James. The ball was relayed in from right field to third, but the ball went into the Rio Grande Valley dugout to allow Brown to score the go-ahead run and take a 3-2 lead.

The Whitewings would threaten in the bottom half by putting two runners on with walks. Noonan calmed down and struck out the final two batters of the inning with strikeouts on three pitches each.

The Dillas would add an insurance run as Trent Lockwood led off with a double, went to third on a Justin Wenger groundout and scored on a James RBI single for a 4-2 Dillas lead.

Noonan pitched a perfect ninth for a 4-2 win and a four-game road sweep of the Whitewings.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 29-23, while the Whitewings fall to 23-29. Tuesday, Amarillo will travel to Edinburg to take on the Roadrunners for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
