
Colts suffer first home series split of season

San Angelo, Texas--- It was a ninth inning that the San Angelo Colts (36-16) will not care to remember. With a 5-3 lead in the ninth, the Edinburg Roadrunners (25-27) scored three runs in the top half of the inning, then slammed the door in the bottom half grabbing the final game of the four game series with a final score of 6-5.
In the top of the fifth inning, the contest was knotted at zero. Edinburg had a runner at first base with one away. The Roadrunners were induced into a strike him out, throw him out to end the inning. It was the fourth caught stealing of the ballgame for Edinburg, all from the arm of Colts back stop Cody Pride.
A bases loaded walk to Jason Diaz earned the first run of the game for San Angelo. After the completion of five, the Colts led by a run.
Edinburg responded in the next frame. The Colts defense sputtered committing two errors as the Roadrunners added three to take the lead. It was the first runs Edinburg had scored in 14 innings of play.
A blast off the bat of Jason Landreth, his thirteenth homer of the year, brought the Colts within a run. Six innings were completed, Edinburg led 3-2.
For the second time in the ballgame the Colts earned a bases loaded walk. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Josh Collazo worked a free pass bringing in Cody Pride, the game was tied at three.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Ronnie Gaines and Bryan Frichter delivered clutch singles to give San Angelo a two run cushion heading into the final frame.
In the ninth inning, Edinburg refused to leave San Angelo quietly. The Roadrunners offense mustered a walk, four singles; including an error by the Colts defense as Edinburg secured a 6-5 advantage.
San Angelo landed runners at first and third base in the bottom half. With two away,Edinburg closer Kelly Casares induced a groundout to second base off the bat of Cody Pride ending the ballgame.The four game set ended in a split. It was just the first series of the season the Colts did not win at least three out of four at home.
Chace Vacek (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season. Left handed reliever Brian Martin (2-2) earned the win, Kelly Casares nailed down his sixth save of the season.
