Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – Receivers Michael Brown and Leroy McFadden have been selected as the Players of the Week for their respective performances in last week's loss to the Macon Knights. The Fox Hole Fan Club tabbed Brown as its top performer, while McFadden garnered honors from the team's front office.

Brown, a 6-0, 190-lbs. wide receiver/defensive back, entered Saturday night's game one reception shy of 100 for his career. Having seen the majority of his playing time this season as the defensive specialist, Brown's offensive numbers haven't been there.

However, Saturday, Brown got the proverbial monkey off his back, hauling in two passes for 39 yards to eclipse the century receptions mark. His 100th catch was a diving stab from last week's Fox Hole Fan Club Player of the Week, Johnny Turman, which landed the Foxes on the Macon one-yard line.

More impressive on the night, though, were Brown's defensive numbers. The all-time leading defender led the team with five tackles, including a pair of solo stops. Brown also added to his career interceptions lead with an acrobatic pick in the Macon end zone, preventing a Knights' score. On the night, Brown broke up three passes for the top-rated Swamp Foxes' defense.

The three-year veteran continues his onslaught against the Swamp Foxes' record book. He already owns the single-season and career interceptions record with 11 last season, 21 total for his career. With every tackle, Brown is rewriting the career tackles list, currently standing with 135.

McFadden entered preseason-training camp under the impression that he would be used primarily as a fullback/linebacker. However, with his height at 6-3 and impressive speed for his 260-lbs. frame, McFadden found himself in the slot at wide receiver – and it couldn't have worked out better for both sides.

McFadden caught seven passes for a team-high 87 yards and three receiving touchdowns. He also rushed in from one-yard out to tally his sixth rushing score of the season. Defensively, McFadden added a tackle assist as he served as a menacing force across the middle.

On the season, McFadden continues to pace the Swamp Foxes in scoring having tallied 21 touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions for 134 points. He stands 68 yards ahead of the second-place Mike Chandler, who's 66 points on the season vaulted him to the top-spot on the Charleston All-time Leading Scorer list. Chandler has 206 career points, surpassing Kenyatta Spruill on the historical count.

The Swamp Foxes return to action this Saturday night, June 28, as they travel to face the Atlantic Division-leading Cape Fear Wildcats. Charleston is searching for its first win over the second-year team and will have to do so on the road where it's 2-4 on the season, doubling last season's road win total.

Kickoff is slated for 7:30 pm from the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum this Saturday night. The game can be heard locally on ESPN Radio, 1340 AM.
