af2 Names Players of the Week
June 24, 2003 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
CHICAGO - Rochester quarterback JASON VISCONTI, Hawaii fullback/linebacker JOSH WHITE and Wichita defensive specialist BRIAN LIVINGSTON have been named Offensive Player, Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 13 of the 2003 season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Visconti (6-2, 185, Wesley College), in his second season, had a career night last Friday breaking two Brigade records and tying another as he completed 30-of-42 passes for 389 yards and eight touchdowns, despite a one-point loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. His 389 passing yards breaks MATT D'ORAZIO'S 313 yards vs. Albany on 4/27/02 and is the fourth best single game total in af2 history. His eight touchdowns, including a 30-yard bomb to MARTINO THEUS at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime if not for a missed extra point attempt, breaks D'Orazio's record of seven touchdowns set last season. Visconti's 30 completions ties a mark set by SCOTT GASPER in 2001. This is the first weekly award for Visconti and the first for any Brigade player this season.
IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
White (6-2, 265, California), a second-year player, came through with a spectacular all-around effort for the Islanders in its 39-38 win over San Diego last Saturday. Against the Riptide, White carried the ball nine times for 52 yards and three touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, he recorded six solo tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and one quarterback hurry. As a result of his performance, White became the first Islander to sweep the MVP, Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Game awards as the Islanders stayed a game up on Wichita for the West Division lead. White is the second Islander to be honored with a weekly accolade this season. Teammate NIAN TAYLOR won Ironman back in Week 8.
ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Livingston (6-2, 205, Grambling State), in his third season, created five turnovers for the Stealth helping to shutdown the ever-potent Arkansas Twisters 57-35 last Saturday. In the game, Livingston tallied a game-high 9.5 tackles, including nine solo stops. He forced two fumbles and intercepted three passes, one of which he ran back 18 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. His 9.5 tackles was a league high for Week 13, along with his three picks. Livingston is a first-time winner of this award and joins LEE VAUGHN as the only other Stealth to be honored with a weekly accolade this season.
