Montreal Alouettes News Release

Montreal, September 5, 2013 - Montreal Alouettes linebackers Chip Cox and Marc-Olivier Brouillette have been named the CFL's Defensive and Canadian Players of the Month for August, the league announced Thursday.

Chip Cox - Defensive Player of the Month

The CFL's leading tackler this season continues to be a defensive pillar for the Alouettes, recording double-digit tackles on three occasions so far this year, including a season-high 12 on July 20 against Calgary. His league-leading 71 defensive tackles include nine for a loss and three sacks. He's also contributed on special teams, racking up six tackles in nine games. Between weeks six and eleven, he recorded 32 defensive tackles and one sack.

The club's all-time leader in defensive tackles with 558 is on pace to break his career-high 82 set in 2012. The 30-year-old is the second Alouettes defensive player to receive the honour this season as teammate and fellow linebacker Kyries Hebert also got the nod for his work in the month of July.

Marc-Olivier Brouillette - Canadian Player of the Month

Brouillette has made the most of his increased playing time over the past five weeks and is on pace for his best season as a pro. His league-leading four forced fumbles have set up a pair of defensive touchdowns so far this year as teammates Jerald Brown and Shea Emry have each recovered and returned one for a major, from 54 and 38 yards respectively.

Filling in for the injured Kyries Hebert at the weak-side linebacker position, Brouillette has recorded a career-best four sacks-good for second on the team. The 27-year-old has also earned the CFL's Canadian Player of the Week honour on two occasions this season, in Weeks 8 and 10.
