Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY - The Cyclones took their third straight from the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, winning on Saturday evening by the score of 6-2. Garrison Bryant (3-1) tossed 6.0 solid innings, scattering two runs on five hits while striking out four.

As has been the case all series long, the BlueClaws struck quickly - taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Johan Rojas hit his third home run of the season.

But has also been the case all series long, the Cyclones came back. In the bottom of the first, Matt Rudick singled and stole second before JT Schwartz walked to put a pair of runners aboard. With two outs, Tanner Murphy laced a line drive into left field, scoring the pair and giving Brooklyn a 2-1 edge. The Cyclones outfielder is batting .480 (12-25) since June 15th with a whopping 1.392 OPS over the stretch.

After trading zeroes in the second and third Brooklyn took control of the game in the bottom of the fourth. Jose Mena singled, Murphy walked and Jaylen Palmer reached on an error to load the bases with nobody out. Shervyen Newton took advantage of the scoring chance with a single to center that scored Mena to make it 3-1 and, after a pair of outs, Matt Rudick added a two-RBI knock to extend the advantage to 5-1.

BlueClaws outfielder Ethan Wilson hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to trim the Brooklyn lead to 5-2, but that is all the offense they would mount on Saturday night, as RHP Nolan Clenney and RHP Grant Hartwig combined for 3.0 shutout innings of relief.

The 'Clones tacked on a run in the bottom of the eight to make the final score 6-2.

Brooklyn will close out the six-game series on Sunday afternoon. It's a Sunday Funday with an appearance from Peppa Pig, inflatable fun in The Backyard and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will get a Cyclones Piggy Bank. The team will also be wearing special blue and gold uniforms that will be auctioned off to benefit the humanitarian effort in Ukraine.
