Rome Emperors News Release
ROME, GA - The Rome Braves and Hickory Crawdads met once again within the friendly confines of AdventHealth Stadium for game five of the six game series, with Luis De Avila on the mound for the Braves.
Luis De Avila would come out hot in Saturday's contest, retiring the Crawdads in order in the top of the first. De Avila would cruise throughout the game, giving up only one run on one hit, and striking out nine. De Avila's stellar start would be more than enough to carry the Braves throughout a majority of the night's contest.
Justyn-Henry Malloy would return to the line up on Saturday night, and would get the offensive party started for the Braves in the home half of the first inning with an single to right field to plate Jacob Pearson. Landon Stephens would tack on one more in the top of the third to give Rome their second run of the evening. Malloy would add on one more with a single to center to once again plate Jacob Pearson, giving the Braves a three one to run lead.
The Braves would carry their lead into the ninth inning, thanks to scoreless outings from Dylan Spain and RJ Freure. Austin Smith would come in from the bullpen looking to slam the door and give the Braves their second win of the series. After being quiet all night, the Hickory Crawdads would wake up in the top of the ninth and hang an eight spot. Randy Florentino, Aaron Zavala, Evan Carter, and Frainyer Chavez would all drive in runs to make the score nine runs to three headed into the home half of the ninth.
Rome would not go quietly into the night, Justyn-Henry Malloy would reach on a single to give him a perfect four for four night. Javier Valdes would double to left and plate Malloy to start an attempt at a rally. A Beau Philip ground out would to short, but Landon Stephens would score to make the score nine runs to five in favor of the Crawdads. However, that would be all the offense the Braves could muster up in the final frame, handing them their second loss of the second half.
Rome and Hickory will wrap up the series on Sunday with a 2:00 PM first pitch, with Roddery Munoz scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Braves in the finale. About Rome Braves
