Broncos Make their First Visit

The Regina Pats (14-26-4-2) host the Swift Current Broncos (28-14-5) Friday night at 7:00 in the Agridome. It's only the second meeting of the season between these two clubs. In their previous encounter, Alex Leavitt scored three times in a 5-0 Bronco romp over Regina September 27th at the Centennial Civic Centre in Swift Current. Tonight is the finale to a 3-game homestand for the Pats. They've earned two of a possible four points so far, thanks to a pair of ties (1-1 vs. Kamloops Friday, 3-3 vs Saskatoon on Sunday). Tonight marks the first of 3-games in 3-nights for the Pats.

PATS NOTES: Regina is 9-7-2-1 at home, 1-7-2 in their past 10 games, and 9-5-0-2 versus the Central Division. They are coming off a 3-3 tie against Saskatoon Sunday here in the 'Dome. Paul Albers, Andrew Desousa and Perry Faul scored the goals while Dustin Slade faced 28 shots in goal. New captain Rick Rypien is the team's leading scorer (14-17-31) followed by Dan Waschuk (14-14-28), Jon Bubnick (11-16-27) and Lance Morrison (9-18-27). Rypien is also the team's PM leader with 126. The Pats are 12 points behind Brandon for third-place, and 13 points up on Saskatoon for the final playoff spot in the division.

BRONCOS NOTES: Swift Current is 16-4-3 on the road, and 6-3-1 in their past 10. Wednesday night they beat Vancouver 6-4 in S.C. Williams (3), Heintz, Lentowich and Friesen scored the goals while Blake Grenier faced 33 Giants' shots. Tyler Redenbach is their leading scorer (21-53-74) followed by Jeremy Williams (36-35-71) and Alex Leavitt (22-30-52). Former Pat Mat Trojovsky is their penalty minute leader with 142. Leavitt leads the squad in +/- with +17. The Broncos enter the night seven points up on Medicine Hat for first-place in the Central Division. They visit Brandon tomorrow night.

QUOTABLE: "It's a little strange with all the new guys here, but it's good to see. There's new blood in the dressing room, and they're all fitting in well. We feel like we've just finished training camp right now and starting a new year. It's a little bit of shock right now, but we're adapting and I think we'll do real well." - Pats Centre Rick Rypien.

SPECIAL TEAMS: The Pats' powerplay is 16th in the WHL (14.5%) and their penalty-kill is 19th (77.3%)......The Broncos' PP is 8th (18.1%) and their PK is 9th (81.9%).

THURSDAY IN THE WHL: No games.

FRIDAY IN THE WHL: P.A. at Brandon, Moose Jaw at Calgary, Vancouver at Lethbridge, Tri-City at Everett, Spokane at Kamloops, Prince George at Kelowna, Seattle at Portland.
