Swift Current Broncos News Release

Prince Albert, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos now sit atop the WHL's Central Division after a 4-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday night.

The Broncos never trailed in the hockey game after Peyton Kettles opened the scoring about seven minutes into the hockey game. Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby said he was happy with the teams start in a difficult building.

"Our first ten minutes were great," Darby said. "We were moving puck well, we had some really good looks, had the legs that we've struggled on the road a little bit, getting legs under us right away. So I thought we had a really good start."

Ryder Ritchie responded for Prince Albert with just under five minutes to play in the first, but that's as close as the Raiders would get in this one as Conor Geekie scored on the powerplay in the second, followed by Luke Mistelbachers 19th of the season to extend the lead to 3-1.

Niall Crocker brough it back to within one in the third period, and the Raiders pushed hard but the Broncos were able to weather the storm while Geekie added an empty net goal for his second of the game and fourth point on the night.

"I thought we played a decent road game tonight," Darby said. "It's always hard to come into this building. They play a hard, hard home game. They had a lot of pressure on us."

The Bronco powerplay was 1-for-2, while the penalty kill was 2-for-2, while Reid Dyck stopped 27 of 29 in the victory.

The Broncos now have 78 points on the year, and are one point ahead of Medicine Hat for the Central Division lead heading into a weekend home and home with the Tigers.
