Swift Current, SK - Florida Panthers prospect Aleksi Heponiemi tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night at the Credit Union iPlex.
It's was Heponiemi's marker 2:19 into the third period that snapped a 2-2 tie lifting the CHL's number three-ranked Broncos to victory.
Calgary Flames prospect Glenn Gawdin recorded a goal and an assist with Tyler Steenbergen rounding out the Swift Current scoring.
Jakob Stukel and Tristen Nielsen replied for Calgary with Stukel extending his point scoring streak to 10 games.
The Broncos, aided by six power play chances to Calgary's two, outshot the Hitmen 37-28.
Calgary continues their three-game East Division road trip on Friday, Mar. 9 against the Saskatoon Blades before heading to Prince Albert on Saturday, Mar. 10. The Hitmen then visit the Medicine Hat Tigers Tuesday, Mar. 13 before returning home the following night on Wednesday, Mar. 14 against the Kootenay ICE. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
