Swift Current Broncos News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (3-8-1-0) couldn't seem to get a bounce their way in a 4-2 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders (4-6-1-1) Saturday night.
Finding themselves shorthanded just 18 seconds into the game the Broncos penalty kill gave up a goal, but it was a lucky one for the Raiders.
Justin Nachbaur's shot from the slot went off Dallyn Peekeekoot, off Sam McGinley and into the net just 1:07 into the game.
After three consecutive power plays, and two posts hit mixed in, the Broncos would pull even. McGinley's shot from the right point sailed past a screened Max Paddock to tie the game at one.
The Broncos were called for tripping just six seconds after McGinley's goal and Nachbaur made them pay, ripping a one timer under the glove of Isaac Poulter to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead after one.
Early in the third the Raiders extended their lead as Spencer Moe took a pass from Ozzy Wiesblatt off the rush, pulling the puck to his backhand and sliding it through Poulter's pads to make it 3-1.
Mathew Ward was robbed of a sure goal later in the second, taking a feed in the slot with Paddock well out of position, but Tayem Gislason reached over and deflected Ward's shot over the net.
Josh Filmon scored on a breakaway early in the third to cut the Raider lead in half, giving the Broncos life to start the third.
Swift Current was given a power play with 2:55 left in the period, and had a number of chances in tight, but couldn't get the puck to settle in the crease.
Shortly after the power play expired, Eric Pearce would hit the empty net to seal the win.
The Broncos are now off for the next two days before returning to action Tuesday against the Regina Pats.
