Broncos Bust out Bats to Beat 'Wings

Laredo, TX - The Laredo Broncos (12-9) scored early and often to beat the Harlingen WhiteWings (8-13) 8-1 tonight at Veterans Field.

The Broncos got to Bobby Darling (0-2) early, as Arnoldo Ponce drew a nine-pitch walk one out into the game. Luany Sanchez singled and Edgard Clemente hit an RBI-double. A wild pitch scored Ponce and moved Sanchez to third, allowing him to score on a Jose Salas ground out to make it 3-0.

Anthony Bennett led off the bottom of the second with a double. Two outs later, Sanchzez hit an RBI-single. Clemente and Salas then hit back-to-back home runs to knock out Darling and make it 7-0 Broncos.

Juan Jimenez took over and got out of the inning. With one out in the third though, Matt Lawman struck out only to reach on a passed ball. After a Bennett single, Dwayne White hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.

That was more than enough for Santo Hernandez (3-0), who pitched six shutout innings, scattering five hits and one walk while striking out five.

The WhiteWings broke up the shutout in the eighth against Rusty Jones as Bub Bergstrom hit a one-out double

The WhiteWings return home to face the San Angelo Colts tomorrow at 7:05 p.m at Harlingen Field. Left-hander Jorge Lugo (2-0) will take on left-hander Frank James Jr. (1-2).
