Broncos score early and often in win over 'Wings

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos staked starter Santo Hernandez to an early lead as they won 8-1 against the Harlingen White Wings on Wednesday Night at Veterans Field in front of a crowd of 591. The Broncos now hit the road for a 6 game trip when they take on the Amarillo Dillas on Thursday night to open up a 3 game series. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Broncos would get on the scoreboard in the 1st inning. With one out Arnoldo Ponce walked and then went to 2nd base on a single by Luany Sanchez. Edgard Clemente would come up next and hit a double into the left centerfield gap scoring Ponce and moving Sanchez to 3rd base. With Jose Salas batting, WhiteWings starter Bobby Darling threw a wild pitch allowing Sanchez to score and advancing Clemente to 3rd. Jose Salas would then groundout, but scoring on the play would be Clemente which would give Laredo an early 3-0 lead.

The Broncos would strike again in the 2nd inning. Anthony Bennett led off the inning with a double. He would be at 3rd with 2 outs when Luany Sanchez singled him in. Edgard Clemente would follow with a 2 run home run his 7th of the season. The very next batter Jose Salas would also homer, his 3rd of the season chasing Harlingen's starter Bobby Darling from the game with Laredo leading 7-0.

Laredo would tack on another run in the 3rd inning. With one out Matt Lawman struck out but advanced to first on the dropped third strike. On a 3-2 pitch and Lawman running Bennett singled into right field allowing Lawman to reach 3rd base. Dwayne White would then his a sacrifice fly scoring Lawman from third and making the score 8-0.

8 runs would be more than enough of a cushion for Broncos starter Santo Hernandez. Hernandez would sail through 6 innings of work. He gave up 0 runs on 4 hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out 5. Dan Sausville would relieve Hernadez in the 7th inning pitching a 1-2-3 inning keeping the score 8-0.

Rusty Jones came into the game in the 8th inning. With one out Bub Bergstrom doubled and he went to 3rd base on a single by Kevin Griffin. Brian Nichols would then single in Bergstrom breaking Laredo's shut out bid and making the score 8-1.

John Smith would come into the game for Laredo in the top of the 9th inning and pitch a 1-2-3 inning giving the Broncos the series and a 8-1 victory.

The Broncos had 4 runs on 12 hits and 2 errors, while the WhiteWings had 7 runs on 13 hits and 0 errors.

The Broncos improve to 12-9 on the season . The Broncos will be back in action on Thursday night in Amarillo to play game 1 of a 3 game set against the Dillas at 7:05.
