May 29, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release

The Brockton Rox scored in each of the first three innings, taking a 6-0 lead. The Tornadoes bounced back with a four-run fourth, but couldn't close the gap in an 8-5 Brockton victory on Sunday afternoon.

In the second, the Rox struck for four runs, sending eight men to the plate. Shawn Williams had a two-run homer, while Dominic Ramos took home on a steal of second by Chris Valencia, and Melvin Falu tacked on a sacrifice fly.

In the Tornadoes first run-scoring inning, seven Worcester batters had plate appearances. Chris Colabello led off the inning with a single. Mark Minicozzi singled him over to third, then Alex Fernandez was retired on a flyball to left. Nick Salotti got the first RBI with a sacrifice fly, then Alex Trezza reached with a single. Boomer Blanchard's second homerun of the year (a three-run shot) made it a two-run ballgame, which was as close as it would get.

Brockton added a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth, then Worcester tallied a run of its own in the game's last half inning. Nick Salotti picked up his second RBI of the game with a solo homer.

Starter Robert Bono got the win for the Rox, while Reid Jackson and Brad Hertzler each notched a hold. Jimmer Kennedy recorded the final two outs of the game to earn the save.

Chris Allen got the loss in his first start of the season. Mike Gedman came in to relieve Allen in the second inning, and pitched 3.2 effective innings (allowing just one hit, a homerun to Chris Grossman). Sean Gregory and Rick Asadoorian each had scoreless outings for Worcester, while Albert Ayala surrendered his first two runs of the season.

The Tornadoes will be back at home for Opening Night on Monday, with a 7:05pm first pitch scheduled at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
