Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - (June 26, 2009) - Brockton Rox designated hitter Palmer Karr homered for the fifth consecutive game, but the Rox dropped its third straight game to New Hampshire and fourth overall on Friday night at Campanelli Stadium, in a 6-4 loss.

Karr's solo home run to lead off the second inning was his third in two days, and league-leading ninth of the season. After New Hampshire answered with a solo shot from CF Edward Ovalle in the third inning, Rox RF Jud Thigpen hit his seventh home run of the year, another solo shot in the fourth.

Brockton extended that lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning with a pair of runs produced by 2B Melvin Falu's sacrifice fly, and RF Jud Thigpen's RBI double.

However the team leading the league in errors, could not keep from tripping itself up on Friday night. New Hampshire scratched across a run in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2. In the seventh inning, Brockton committed two errors, leading to an unearned run. In total in the seventh inning, New Hampshire scored three runs on just one hit, with two Rox errors and four walks.

The Defenders added an insurance run in the eighth which proved to be unnecessary as closer RHP Juan Padilla saved his third game in two days, and league-leading 10th of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Brockton and New Hampshire take to the field on Saturday night at Campanelli Stadium with dueling lefties. New Hampshire will start LHP Mark Romanczuk (1-2, 7.33 ERA) against Rox LHP Craig Anderson (3-1, 2.25 ERA). Saturday night's first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
