Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA (August 28, 2008) - With hopes of a 2008 postseason appearance already dashed, the Brockton Rox dropped the finale of a four-game series to the Ottawa Rapidz 9-6 on Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium. The teams split the four-game series with two wins apiece.
The Rox and Rapidz combined for 29 hits on the night and scored 15 total runs, 11 of which were scored in the last five innings. Ottawa, however, led from the start, getting two first inning runs and never turning back. Brockton cut the lead as close as two runs heading to the ninth inning with a 7-5 score.
Rapidz's 1B Jabe Bergeron led the way offensively, finishing 3-4 with three RBI and a run scored. He finished the series 8-16 (.500) with 6 RBI. Eight of the nine Rapidz's starters had at least one hit and seven different players scored runs in the game for Ottawa.
Brockton's offense was led by 2B Melvin Falu whose three hits tied the Can-Am League record for hits in a season with 135. He finished the night with a triple to lead off the ninth inning and was 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Rox finish the 2008 season with four games against the New Jersey Jackals beginning on Friday night. RHP Santo Hernandez (0-1, 5.14 ERA) starts for the Rox against Jackals' RHP Tom Atlee. Friday night's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
