Skyhawks Clinch Playoff Spot

August 28, 2008 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release

With a win last night in Montclair, NJ, against the New Jersey Jackals, the Sussex Skyhawks have secured a spot in the 2008 Can-Am League playoffs.

Although the regular season is yet to be completed, the four-playoff teams are already determined. The Quebec Capitales, the #1 seed, won the first half championship and will host games 1 & 2 on Sept. 3 & 4. They will take on the #4 seed.

The Skyhawks, Worcester Tornadoes and Atlantic City Surf are the other three teams in the playoffs; their seeds are yet to be determined.

Currently, the Skyhawks are tied with Quebec for the lead in the second half and trail Quebec by six games for the overall best record. Should the Skyhawks finish with the #2 seed, they will host games 3, 4 & 5 of the best-of-five series at Skylands Park.

"Although we don't know the exact dates of the playoff games, we have prepared for this and have been selling tickets for the past week", commented Skyhawks General Manager Ben Wittkowski. " This is a great thing for the community, we certainly know that die hard fans are going to be in attendance to help cheer the Skyhawks to a league championship; but I hope that the casual fan comes out to support their hometown team".

Skylands Park has been the host of professional baseball for 15 years and this is only the second time a team that calls Skylands Park home is going to the playoffs.

The Skyhawks finish the regular season on Sept. 1. Tonight, August 28, the Skyhawks will take on the Jackals for the final game of their 4-game series. The Hawks will then travel to Atlantic City to finish out the season with a 4-game set vs. Atlantic City.

To reserve your playoff seats, call the Skyhawks box office at 973-300-1000 x 21.
