Pride Past Surf in Home Finale; 8-2

(Nashua, N.H., August 28, 2008) The Nashua Pride closed out the home schedule with an 8-2 victory over the Atlantic City Surf at Historic Holman Stadium on Thursday night.

Pride starting pitcher Matt O'Brien (3-1) earned the victory going eight innings, giving two runs (one earned), on six hits, three walks and five strike outs. Reliever Adam Piechowski closed the game by striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Nashua left fielder Vinny Pennell led the offense, going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Center fielder Ervin Alcantara went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI while Edgard Clemente was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Shortstop Sandy Almonte and second baseman Hans Stancil also each knocked in a run for the Pride.

Surf starter Charlie Ruud did not factor in the decision in seven innings, giving up two runs, on nine hits, no walks and two strike outs. Reliever Walker Whitely (1-6) suffered the loss, giving up six runs, on five hits and two walks in the eighth inning.

Atlantic City received no RBI in the game, scoring one run via a balk and the other on an error. Shortstop Anthony Granato finished the night 1-for-4 with a double, stolen base, and a run scored.

The Pride will end the season on the road in Quebec City when it takes on the Capitales in a four game series beginning on Friday night, at 7:05pm, when Nashua sends Jason Paul (4-5) to the mound.
