Brock Sheahan Named Associate Head Coach

GENEVA, Ill. - Brock Sheahan has been named Associate Head Coach of the Chicago Steel, the team announced Tuesday. Sheahan joins the Steel from College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, Mass.) where he has spent the last four seasons as Associate Head Coach and Assistant Coach.

"Brock's hockey mind, passion for development, and experience as both a player and an NCAA Division I coach will be a vital resource for our players going forward," said Steel General Manager Ryan Hardy. "Throughout this process, we were looking to round out our staff with a candidate who possessed the skill set and demeanor to be a future Head Coach while also bringing unique experiences to the table."

Sheahan, known for his defensive prowess as both a player and coach, brings a wealth of experience at multiple levels of the sport. Sheahan served as Associate Head Coach for Holy Cross the past two seasons, helping lead the Crusaders to a 27-31-14 record. Prior to that, Sheahan served as Assistant Coach for two seasons.

"My family and I are very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the Steel organization," said Sheahan. "Ryan Hardy, Greg Moore and I share the same beliefs in the development process for players at the junior level. I am looking forward to getting started and helping to implement this progressive vision."

While with the Crusaders, Sheahan was in charge of video review, teaching sessions, on-ice skill sessions, positional development, recruiting and statistical analysis. The former defenseman helped the Crusaders to a school-record 2.35 goals allowed per game during the 2014-15 season. The team posted a 2.11 goals allowed per game mark in conference play the next season en route to an 18-13-5 record.

Prior to Holy Cross, Sheahan spent one season as volunteer assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame, his alma mater, helping to lead the Fighting Irish to a 23-15-2 record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

As a student-athlete, Sheahan played 161 games for Notre Dame from 2004 to 2008, recording 33 points from the blueline for the Fighting Irish. During that time, the school captured its first CCHA Championship and advanced to tits first Frozen Four in 2006-07. He served as an assistant captain the following season, his senior year, and helped lead the Fighting Irish to the 2008 National Championship Game.

The Lethbridge, Alberta, native played five years of professional hockey in the AHL, ECHL and DEL2. He amassed 74 points in 282 games in the East Coast Hockey League with the Cincinnati Cyclones, Wheeling Nailers and Ontario Reign. Sheahan's first season with the Cyclones, 2009-10, ended in a Kelly Cup Championship.

Sheahan comes from a hockey family as his brother, Brodie, played his college hockey at Holy Cross and also played one season for the Reign. Brock's cousin, Riley, is a 365-game veteran of the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Sheahan joins the Steel bench alongside newly-hired Head Coach Greg Moore and Assistant Coach Mike Garman, who is returning for his second season with the Steel.
