Los Angeles Sparks News Release
LOS ANGELES - The WNBA announced today that Los Angeles Sparks guard Brittney Sykes was named to the All-Defensive Second Team. Sykes earned an All-Defensive Team spot for the third consecutive season. She made her first All-Defensive team in 2020 as a second team member. She followed that up 2021 with a spot on the First Team, as well as finishing second for Defensive Player of the Year.
Known for her pressure defense, Sykes led the WNBA in both total steals (65) and steals per game (2.0) in 2022, both career-highs. She was the WNBA steals leader for back-to-back seasons (2021 and 2022), becoming just the third player in league history to accomplish this, joining Teresa Weatherspoon and Tamika Catchings.
Sykes also averaged a career-high 0.7 blocks per game, ranking top three in the league among guards. In addition to her defense, Sykes posted career-highs in points per game (12.7) and assists per game (3.7).
