Brinkley Named NL Player of the Week

The Northern League announced that Calgary Vipers outfielder Darryl Brinkley was named Northern League Player of the Week for the week ending June 10, 2007.

Brinkley, a 14-year minor league veteran, is off to one of his best starts in his distinguished career. The right-handed hitter batted .611 (11-for-18) with six RBI and two stolen bases in six games for the Vipers. On the week, he collected a hit in all six Vipers games, extending his hitting streak to 21 games. Following an 0-for-4 on openingnight, Brinkley has collected at least one hit in every game since. In addition to leading the league in batting (.418) after 22 games played, the career .325 hitter, is third in the league in runs scored (21), second in total bases (62), second in RBI (25), and second in on-base percentage (.468).

The 5-11, 205-pounder, began his career playing overseas in the Netherlands (1991-92) and Italy (1993) prior to being signed by the Winnipeg Goldeyes in 1994. The oft-traveled outfielder, has played for the Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Pirates, and L.A. Dodgers organizations. He has played as high as Triple-AAA every season since 1997 and has played pro ball in Holland, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Korea, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico in addition to the United States.

The Norwalk, CT native, batted .368 for the Vipers in 2006.
