
Brigade announces 2006 team award winners

Kansas City Brigade News Release
After conducting a fan and media vote, the Brigade has tabulated its six individual award winners for the inaugural season. Fans were given one week to vote for their choices through a poll on the team website and the media delivered its ballots to the Brigade PR staff.
Team MVP-Jerel Myers
He started all 16 games as a rookie and finished sixth in the league in receiving and first among rookies. The opening-day OS, Myers became a two-way player midway through the season and recorded 13.5 tackles, including one tackle-for-loss and a fumble recovery.
Offensive Player of the Year-Jerel Myers He led the team in receptions (122), receiving yards (1245), and all-purpose yards (1386) to go with 16 touchdown catches. He finished second on the team in scoring with 110 points.
Defensive Player of the Year-Byron Douzart
He appeared in 15 games as a rookie and started the last seven. Douzart totaled 42.5 tackles, one interception, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He finished fifth in rushing among rookies, including third among rookie FB/LB. He finished third in touchdowns among rookies, including second among rookie FB/LB. Douzart also led the AFL with 18.0 special-teams tackles.
Ironman of the Year-James Jordan
He fought through injuries in his second year to start 13 games. Jordan finished second on the team in receptions (69) and yards (797) to go with 14 touchdowns. He was third on the team in scoring with 84 points. Jordan totaled 32.5 tackles, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss, and two pass breakups. He was named U.S. Army Ironman of the Game three times.
Rookie of the Year-Aaron Boone
He started all seven games after being acquired from Philadelphia before the trade deadline. Boone was named to the AFL All-Rookie team at WR/LB but starred for the Brigade at OS. He finished third on the team in receptions (66) and yards (748) and led the team with 19 touchdowns and 118 points. Boone averaged nine receptions, 113 yards, and three touchdowns per game.
Lineman of the Year-B.J. Cohen
The undisputed general of the Brigade, he led the team with 3.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles-for-loss, totaling 19.0 tackles. Cohen also had two pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. He was also the only Brigade player with a blocked kick, recording four. A true two-way player, Cohen caught three passes for 33 yards.
