Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The Green Bay Blizzard are pleased to announce that former University of Wisconsin Badger standout running back and current NFL running back, Brian Calhoun will serve as the Honorary Captain at the Blizzard's upcoming home game vs. the Quad City Steamwheelers on Friday April 27th at U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center.
Calhoun, a native of Oak Creek, WI, garnered numerous accolades throughout his prep career and was twice named as an All-State selection at running back as well as an All-American selection after his senior year at Oak Creek in 2001. Undoubtedly known for his speed and athleticism, Calhoun also starred as a track athlete in high school where he competed and still holds records in the high jump and long jump.
NCAA transfer rules forced Calhoun to the sidelines during the 2004 season when Calhoun transferred from the University of Colorado. When Calhoun finally got his chance in 2005 with the Badgers, his impact was felt immediately. Calhoun finished the 2005 campaign with a Badger single-season record in total touchdowns with 24 and rushing touchdowns 22. Calhoun also became only the second player in Big Ten Conference history to rush for over 1,000 yards (1,636) and gain over 500 yards (571) receiving in the same season. Calhoun's big-play making ability made him a fan favorite at Wisconsin as the Wisconsin student body would raise two fingers (Calhoun's jersey number at Wisconsin) every time he touched the ball.
Calhoun was chosen in the third round (3rd) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, leaving Wisconsin after his junior year. Calhoun however remains close to his roots in Wisconsin offering numerous football camps for young athletes throughout the state of Wisconsin. Calhoun's accomplishments both on and off the field are beacons of light and promise for the NFL that has come under much scrutiny lately for players that do uphold the personal and moral standards the NFL would like its players to resemble.
Come join the Blizzard and Brian Calhoun this Friday, April 27 against the Quad City Steamwheelers. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. CST at U.S. Cellular Field at the Resch Center. The game will feature the University of Wisconsin Badger Marching Band, presented by Piggly Wiggly and Sargento Cheese, as they perform at half-time and their famous "Fifth Quarter." Single game tickets for this game are available through the Oneida Ticketstar Box Office located inside the Resch Center. Group ticket rates are available through the Blizzard office.
