VS: TEXAS COPPERHEADS (1-2)

BROADCASTS: RADIO: KKAM 1340 AM WEBCAST VIDEO: b2 Networks (www.lubbockrenegades.com)

There will be a lot of roster moves made this week, as the Lubbock Renegades are dissatisfied with their 0-3 start. They continue to look for their first win in franchise history and they hope the goal can be accomplished this Saturday night as they host the 1-2 Texas Copperheads. The Copperheads are coming off their first win in franchise history with a 56-42 win over winless Corpus Christi. The Renegades are one of three National Conference teams without a win and they are one of seven teams (of the 30 in the league) with just one home game played. Their last home game was a 51-48 loss to Arkansas on April 15th. The Renegades are coming in after a miserable 63-26 loss at Spokane.

RENEGADES RECAP

The defending af2 champion Spokane Shock scored touchdowns on 9 of 11 drives and kept the Lubbock Renegades winless (0-3) on the season with a 63-23 win in front of a capacity crowd of 10,565 inside the Spokane Arena Saturday evening.

Four of the nine touchdowns were registered by Antwone Savage, who ended the game with 75 yards receiving on six receptions. Savage collected three of his touchdowns in the second half as insurance for the Shock, who maintained the lead with little pressure from the Renegades.

Lubbock opened the game with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Justin Midgett to Alvance Robinson on the opening drive, but it would be the only lead the Renegades would enjoy. The Shock responded with 25 consecutive points off a trio of touchdowns. Lubbock cut the Shock lead to 25-13 with 48-seconds remaining in the first half with a 14-yard touchdown reception by Joey Hawkins. Raul Vijil placed the halftime score at 32-13 with a 29-yard touchdown catch with six seconds remaining in the half.

Spokane opened the second half with the ball and continued to build to their lead with an opening drive score. The Renegades did not halt a Spokane drive until the third quarter, which ended a streak of six consecutive touchdown drives. Lubbock trailed 39-20 entering the fourth quarter, but could only get a Preston Hartfield four-yard touchdown reception in the final quarter. Savage had a pair of his four touchdowns in the fourth quarter and Midgett threw two interceptions, keeping the Shock lead safe. One of the interceptions slipped through the hands of Johnny Journey and into the hands of Rob Keefe, who returned the pass 13 yards for a touchdown.

Midgett finished the game 20 for 40 passing for 197 yards. He threw four touchdowns and gave up two interceptions. His longest touchdown pass was a 28-yard pass to Victor Mann, who released out of the backfield for the touchdown reception. Robinson was the leading receiver for the Renegades with 74 receiving yards (7 catches). Shock quarterback Andrico Hines was near flawless in the victory. He completed 17 of his 31 passes for 6 touchdowns and 192 yards. The Shock did not turn the ball over during the game.

RENEGADES RIVAL RUNDOWN

The Texas Copperheads come from Cypress, Texas in the Houston area. They stuggled out of the gates and after going 0-2 and becoming just the second team in af2 history to be shutout (52-0 on April 14th vs Bossier-Shreveport), they rebounded last week with a 56-42 win over Corpus Christi. The Copperheads have the least productive offense in the af2 with just 69 points tallied on the season.

TEXAS' LAST GAME RECAP

TEXAS 56, Corpus Christi 42

HOUSTON - With both sides of the ball clicking, the expansion Texas Copperheads earned their first victory of the season, thrashing the Corpus Christi Sharks, 56-42, before a crowd of 2,846 at the Berry Center.

The two teams forced a tied score at 28 before kicker Nick Gatto booted a 34-yard field goal with no time remaining for a 31-28 Texas lead at halftime.

With the game still in doubt heading into the fourth quarter, the Copperheads (1-2) outscored Corpus (0-3) 19-7 in the final period. Sharks quarterback Juan De Los Santos threw all three of his picks in the final 11 minutes as Texas' Jarrod Fuller returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Defensive back Kealvin Armstong, playing in his first game, took a 12-yard interception for a score late in the game.

Much-maligned quarterback Tony Eckert completed 16-of-31 passes for 219 yards and five touchdowns. Receivers Obrey Minor caught seven passes for 112 yards and three scores.

Defensively, the Copperheads forced six turnovers, and defensive back Greg Yeldell tallied nine total tackles and an interception.
