Helena Brewers News Release

The Helena Brewers (5-16) took their series opener 8-1 over the Great Falls Voyagers (12-9) on Friday at Kindrick Field in Helena.

Helena put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first and never looked back, leading the whole way. Malik Collymore led off with a single in the first as part of a five-hit inning. Steven Karkenny and David Denson added in doubles to back up the RBI triple of Troy Stokes in the inning.

Evin Einhardt (5-2) was roughed up for the second time in as many starts against the Brewers. He went three-plus innings of work, giving up five runs on 10 hits. It was a new high for Einhardt in hits allowed. He would strike out four batters.

Jake Drossner (3-2) made an outstanding start, throwing shutout baseball through five innings. He allowed two hits in the first inning and did not allow another hit the rest of his time on the hill.

The Voyagers broke through for their first and only run in the top of the seventh. Sikes Orvis hit a solo homer, his fourth homerun of the season, off Marcos Diplan.

Helena added two runs in both the fourth and seventh to run away with it.

Collymore, Karkenny, and Carlos Belonis led the Helena offense with three hits apiece.

The two teams will face off in the second game of their four-game series Saturday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
