Ogden Raptors News Release
The Ogden Raptors lost to the Helena Brewers 7-1, enduring another rain delay at Kendrick Legion Field Friday night.
Los Angeles Dodgers 2014 first-round pick Grant Holmes made his Raptors debut but received the loss. In 3.1 innings, Holmes allowed seven runs on nine hits.
Holmes sat down the first five hitters of the game with three strikeouts before Tucker Neuhaus singled for Helena's first hit. Alan Sharkey followed with a double to center to score Neuhaus and put Helena up 1-0.
The Brewers put two more on the board in the third with four singles. Helena scored on consecutive RBI singles by Mitch Meyer and Natanael Mejia to extend the Helena lead to 3-0.
The Raptors got their lone run on a solo homer by Justin Chigbogu to lead off the fourth. Chigbogu's homer was his league-leading 14th of the season. The 14 homers tie Travis Vetters (2007), Jerry Sands (2009) and Jacob Scavuzzo (2013) for the fifth most home runs in a season by a Raptor.
The Brewers broke the game open in the fourth, scoring four runs on five hits, including a double by Sthervin Matos. The four-run inning gave Helena a 7-1 lead.
J.B. Kole earned the win for Helena. In five innings, he allowed just one run on five hits with five strikeouts.
Rain hit the ballpark after the sixth inning and delayed the game for 53 minutes. The Raptors had a game rained out earlier this week against Missoula. Between games of their doubleheader on Thursday, rain hit and the second game was delayed about an hour.
The Raptors and Brewers continue their four-game series Saturday. Right-hander Trevor Oaks will take the mound for Ogden against lefty David Carver. Game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
